Common questions

Who can get it free on the NHS in Scotland?

This winter the NHS offers it to people at higher risk. This includes people living in care homes for older adults, adults aged 75 or over, and people aged 6 months or over with a weakened immune system. It is not being offered to people aged 65 to 74, pregnant women, frontline health and care workers, or people with a health condition in a clinical risk group.

How much does it cost?

Each pharmacy sets its own price. You can see it when you choose a pharmacy.

How many doses do I need?

Most people need 1 dose. It is given at least 3 months after your last COVID-19 vaccine. Some children aged 6 months to 4 years who have not had a COVID-19 vaccine before may need 2 doses.

What are the side effects?

Side effects include a sore, heavy arm, feeling tired, headache, and general aches or mild flu-like symptoms. They should normally only last a few days.

When should I get urgent help?

Get urgent medical help if you have chest pain, feel short of breath, or feel your heart racing or fluttering after the vaccine.

I recently had COVID-19. Can I still have it?

Adults should wait 4 weeks after confirmed COVID-19. Children should wait 12 weeks.
