About Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is when a man ejaculates sooner than he or his partner would like during sex. Occasional episodes are common and not a cause for concern. A pharmacist can check if treatment is suitable for you, such as dapoxetine tablets or a numbing spray or cream.
Who it’s for
- Men aged 18 to 64
- Not suitable if you have heart problems, have fainted before, have epilepsy, or have had mania or moderate to severe depression
- Not suitable if you take antidepressants or certain other medicines, such as some migraine medicines or tramadol
- Speak to your GP if you have a long-term ejaculation problem
Common questions
How much does it cost?
Each pharmacy sets its own price. You can see it when you choose a pharmacy.
How do dapoxetine tablets work?
Dapoxetine is taken only when needed, 1 to 3 hours before sex. It is not a daily tablet.
What are the side effects?
Feeling sick is common at first and usually gets better. Drink a full glass of water before taking it to lower the risk of fainting. Do not drink alcohol with it. If you feel dizzy, lie down and do not drive.
Are there other treatments?
Numbing creams and sprays, such as lidocaine or prilocaine, can help. Wash them off before sex if you are not using a condom. Techniques such as the squeeze technique can help, but need lots of practice.
What if it does not work?
Go back for a review if it has not helped after 8 weeks or 6 doses. Stop and get medical help straight away if you faint or have mood changes.
